Circular Stories

“Let there be beauty before me, beauty behind me, beauty to the right of me, beauty to the left of me, beauty above me, beauty below me, I'm on the Pollen Path.”

-A Navajo Prayer

I have been preoccupied with the circular form for years, which started out as daily ink drawings on post-it notes to overcome a creative block, which ended up being seeds of inspiration for larger works.

According to one of my favourite philosophers, the work for each one of us is seeking out what is at the centre of our “sacred circle”, which involves the discipline of pulling all the scattered aspects of life together, focussing on that centre and ordering ourself to it.

These are the kinds of contemplations that I bring to an ongoing series of circular format paintings.

Circling back to the essence of the Navajo prayer I love so much, as a traveller on the pollen path, may there be beauty above, below, to the right and left.
